COURT SENTENCES LABOURER FOR STEALING WIRE IN ABUJA
Tile Dominic, a laborer, was sentenced to eight weeks in prison by a Grade 1 Area Court in Lugbe, Abuja, on Thursday for stealing wire.
Malam Aliyu Kagarko, the judge, sentenced Dominic, 26, who had entered a guilty plea to the allegation of theft.
But Kagarko offered Dominic the choice of paying a N20,000 fine.
The prosecutor, Mr E. A. Nnamani, earlier told the court that the convict, a resident of New Nyanya in Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, stole one roll of 1.5mm wire belonging to a man identified simply as Mr Johnson.
Nnamani said the theft occurred on March 28.
He said Dominic returned on March 29 to steal more, but was caught.
The prosecutor said stealing contravened Section 287 of the Penal Code.
According to him, the convict was hired as a labourer on the NNPC Estate, Lugbe, Abuja, when he committed the offence.
Nnamani said the matter was reported at the Lugbe Police Station by one Mr John Ogbache, on March 29.
He said the wire was found in Dominic’s possession, adding that during police investigation, he admitted guilt.
