NIS NOT NEGLECTING OTHER SPORTS FOR SOCCER – DG
The Director General, National Institute for Sports, NIS, Prof Olawale Moronkola, says the institute is not focusing on the development of soccer but paying due attention to other sports.
The NIS chief executive officer stressed during a media parley in Yola that soccer remains the most popular sport across the world and Nigeria will not ignore soccer, but the country and his institute are paying due attention to all sports.
Prof Olawole Moronkola and his team from the NIS have been in Yola for days conducting a sports development coaching seminar for Adamawa people.
Addressing the media party on the side of the training exercise, the NIS DG said all of the 49 sports federations, including that of soccer, get the due attention of the sports institute.
“We hold on to the development of soccer, but we are not paying lip service to other sports. We train coaches and managers for all sports,” he said.
He added that even emerging sports in the country, such as fencing, arm wrestling, netball of old, which is returning, among others, get much attention from the NIS.
