UPDATE: FLOOD KILLS 20, LEAVES 3000 DISPLACED IN YOBE
No less than 20 people have been reported deceased in the last two weeks in Gashua, the seat of the Bade local government area in Yobe state, as a result of house collapses caused by severe rainfall.
Babagana Ibrahim, the Executive Chairman of the local government area, informed Channels Television’s correspondent that many locals are now seeking safety in three designated camps.
According to him, the government is meeting the urgent needs of displaced people by giving food, medical care, hygiene kits, clean drinking water, and food to keep them safe from disease epidemics.
Ibrahim is requesting additional assistance from the federal government and charitable organisations.
“The number of the displaced persons has risen to about 3,000 we need the federal government and donour agencies to support states and local government areas affected by flood in providing relief materials to them”

“It’s been raining these days and many houses are collapsing especially mud houses. This morning alone, four people have been confirmed dead in Gashua”
Already, two federal roads leading to Gashua have been closed in the previous ten days, making it difficult for humanitarian personnel to attend to the needs of the displaced people.
To avoid more flood casualties, the chairman has urged residents living in mud dwellings to evacuate.
