OYO POLICE DENY RUMOUR OF RESCUE OF ABDUCTED CRIN WORKERS
Agency Report

The Oyo State Police Command has debunked widespread reports claiming that abducted staff members of the Cocoa Research Institute of Nigeria (CRIN) have been rescued.
In a statement issued by the Command, residents were urged to remain calm and avoid circulating unverified information, noting that false reports were capable of causing panic and disrupting ongoing security operations.
“Members of the public are urged to remain calm, support the ongoing efforts of the joint security team, and verify every piece of information before sharing it,” the statement read.
The Command warned that the spread of fake news and misinformation only heightened tension and diverted critical resources needed for rescue efforts.
“The Command hereby debunks the rumour currently circulating that the victims have been rescued,” it added.
It further assured residents that verified updates would be communicated as soon as credible information becomes available.
Meanwhile, individuals seeking clarification were advised to contact the Police Public Relations Officer or the Command’s control room through official channels.
Reacting to the development, the security adviser to Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, Abayomi Fagbenro, confirmed that the abducted teachers and students had not been released as of Thursday morning.
He said there was no truth in the viral reports suggesting their rescue, stressing that efforts to secure their safe return were still ongoing.
