The All Progressives Congress (APC) has declared Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, as the winner of its governorship primary held in the state.

The result was announced on Friday night by the Chairman of the APC Committee for the Plateau State House of Assembly and Governorship Primary, Fidelis Mnyim, at the party secretariat in Jos after the collation of results from all 17 local government areas of the state.

According to the committee, Mutfwang secured overwhelming support across the state, winning all 17 LGAs, while his opponent, retired military officer Yilcini Jan Bida, trailed significantly.

Announcing the final figures, the Returning Officer said Mutfwang polled 233,335 votes, while Bida scored 3,070 votes.

“The total number of votes scored by Barrister Caleb Mutfwang from the 17 Local Government Areas of the state is 233,335, while Chief Yilcini Jan Bida scored a total of 3,070 votes. Therefore, Mutfwang, having certified the requirement of the APC constitution and guidelines and having scored the highest number of votes, is hereby declared elected and returned as the governorship candidate of Plateau State,” the Returning Officer stated.

The development follows Mutfwang’s political realignment earlier in 2026 after he resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party on December 29, 2025, citing the need for “clarity of purpose and effective service delivery.”

He subsequently aligned with the Progressive Governors’ Forum under the APC on January 2, 2026, a move party leaders described as strengthening unity within the state’s political structure.

Chairman of the APC reception committee, Idris Wase, said Mutfwang’s entry into the party created a broader platform for development and governance reforms in Plateau State.

He expressed optimism that the new political alignment would improve infrastructure, security, job creation, and investment inflow into the state.

APC State Chairman, Rufus Bature, commended the electoral committee for conducting a transparent process, noting that the party would now focus on strengthening support ahead of the general elections.
