ENUGU POLICE ARREST TWO SUSPECTS OVER ALLEGED DRUG PEDDLING

Operatives of the Enugu State Police Command have arrested two suspects for their alleged involvement in the peddling of illicit drugs in Nkanu East Local Government Area of the state.
The command also recovered quantities of suspected Cannabis sativa during separate intelligence-led operations carried out across different communities in the area.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, confirmed the arrests in a statement made available on Friday, noting that the operations were part of ongoing efforts to curb criminal activities in the state.
According to him, operatives attached to the Surveillance Team of the Agbani Area Command raided a suspected drug hideout at Umuiba Nara in Nkanu East LGA on May 21, 2026, at about 6:25 a.m., leading to the arrest of one Ani James, aged 35.
Ndukwe said the suspect allegedly confessed to engaging in the buying and selling of cannabis and its variants, including Loud and Colos.
“Upon interrogation, the suspect allegedly confessed to engaging in the illicit buying and selling of ‘Loud’, ‘Colos’ and other variants of Cannabis sativa,” he stated.
He added that several sachets and wraps of suspected illicit substances were recovered from the suspect during the operation.
In a separate operation on May 16, 2026, police operatives acting on intelligence arrested a 50-year-old suspect, Edeh Ikechukwu, at Isigwe Ugbawka, also in Nkanu East LGA.
Large quantities of weeds suspected to be Cannabis sativa were reportedly recovered from him.
According to the police spokesperson, the suspect allegedly confessed to having been involved in drug trafficking for about five years.
“The suspect confessed to being involved in the illicit drug trade for the past five years,” Ndukwe added.
He said investigations into both cases were ongoing, adding that the suspects would be charged to court upon completion of investigation.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, reiterated the command’s commitment to intelligence-driven policing and sustained crackdown on drug-related crimes.
He also urged residents to support security agencies with credible information to help rid the state of criminal elements.
