Nigerian singer Yemi Alade talked about the terrifying experience of losing her voice right before Beyoncé’s “The Lion King: The Gift” album was recorded.

After arriving in Los Angeles, Alade described the incident’s course in an interview with Larry Madowo on “CNN African Voices.”

She claimed that the day before her recording session, having arrived in Los Angeles, she went to the studio to meet the production team, only to wake up the following morning speechless.

“All I heard in my head was an effort, but I couldn’t voice out words,” she explained, describing her shock and discouragement.

She claimed that in spite of her disappointment, she made the decision to try her vocal routine, which consisted of warming water, vitamin C, ginger, teas, and staying warm.

The recovery enabled her to record two tracks with Beyoncé, including the “Don’t Jealous Me” hit and a verse for an earlier version of “My Power.”

Alade joked that her “village people” were attempting to ruin her big break by causing the first vocal gaffe.

She did, however, convey her sincere thankfulness to God for removing the barrier and bringing the partnership to fruition.
