CRIME: POLICE ARREST 43-YEAR-OLD MAN FOR DEFILING MINOR IN ADAMAWA
The sessions of the Rivers State House of Assembly were adjourned indefinitely on Friday.
Speaker Martin Amaewhule presided over a plenary session where the decision was made.
The deferral comes after Governor Siminalayi Fubara submitted a letter suggesting that the 2025 budget be re-presented on Wednesday in accordance with the recent ruling by the Supreme Court.
“The arrest follows a referral from the Chief Magistrate Court, Ganye, based on a complaint lodged by the victim’s mother.
“That, on 16th February 2025, the victim, while attending a wedding ceremony in Timdore village, went to a nearby house to drink water. Unfortunately, the suspect forcefully dragged her to the rear side of the compound and had unlawful carnal knowledge of her,” he stated.
According to him, the victim was brought to a medical center in Ganye for treatment and examination.
Dankombo Morris, the Adamawa State Commissioner of Police, vehemently denounced the crime and instructed the Command’s Officer in Charge of the Family Support Unit to assume responsibility for the investigation and guarantee the suspect’s thorough prosecution.
The Adamawa State Police Command is steadfast in its efforts to combat gender-based violence and sexual abuse in all its manifestations, he continued.
The commissioner advised guardians and parents to keep a tight eye on their kids and to report any suspicious activity to the police.
