
18-YEAR-OLD ARRAIGNED IN COURT FOR STEALING PHONE WORTH N150,000 IN EKITI
An 18-year-old Mustapha Usman, was arraigned on Friday before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing a Samsung Galaxy A03 phone valued at N150,000.
Usman, whose address was not provided, faces two charges of stealing and breach of peace, to which he pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Inspector Akinwale Oriyomi, informed the court that the alleged offense occurred on March 11 at 12:30 p.m. in the Okeyinmi area of Ado-Ekiti.
Oriyomi stated that Usman allegedly stole the phone belonging to the complainant, Mr. Ologundudu Rahmat, and was caught in the act, leading to the recovery of the stolen device.
Additionally, the prosecutor accused the defendant of conducting himself in a manner likely to disturb public peace.
He said that the offences contravened Sections 302 and 181(d) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.
The prosecutor urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him study the case file and assemble his witnesses.
Defence Counsel, Mr Gboyega Abiola, urged the court to grant his client bail, promising that he would not jump bail.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Abayomi Adeosun, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N25, 000 with one surety in like sum and adjourned the case to April 14 for mention.
