A girl, who is now a woman, was reported missing 25 years ago when she was just 2 years old. Police in Connecticut, USA, have found her.

According to Fox News, Andrea Reyes, 27, was kidnapped in October 1999 and taken to Mexico by Rosa Tenorio, her biological mother, who did not have custody of her.

Although Reyes and her mother were identified by Mexican authorities in 2000, it was recommended that the Mexican government refrain from taking any further action to separate Andrea from her mother.

However, when Det. Kealyn Nivakoff of the New Haven Police Department started re-investigating the case in 2023, Andrea got in touch with the man she thought was her father.

In order to verify her identity, New Haven police collaborated with the forensic genetic genealogy research firm Othram, which finally verified a father-daughter relationship between Andrea and her father.

“Thank you for sharing in our joy in finding our daughter Andrea. After 25 years, God has answered our prayers and blessed us with a chance to know her again.

“We recognize that this reacquaintance will have challenges, however, we are confident that God is building the path before us and leading our steps,” Andrea’s stepmother said in an emotional statement.

In order to locate his daughter, Andrea’s father traveled to Mexico multiple times over the years, according to police during the press conference.

Law enforcement and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, or NCMEC, were thanked by Andrea’s father and stepmother.

Family abductions are reportedly the second most frequent kind of child abduction in the US, according to NCMEC.
