The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), and the Nigeria Police Force have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening collaboration in the fight against crime in Lagos State.

This resolution was reached during a courtesy visit by the Controller of NCS at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Comptroller Michael Toyin Awe, and the Controller of NIS, Comptroller D.O. Adebambo, to the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Moshood Oluhundare Jimoh, at the Command Headquarters in Ikeja.

The visit aimed to reinforce inter-agency cooperation in tackling trans-border crimes and preventing the importation of prohibited goods. Comptroller Awe emphasized the need to build upon the existing synergy between the agencies, stating that effective security operations require collective effort.

He highlighted a recent seizure within his command, where military accoutrements were intercepted and traced to their source in Turkey. The perpetrators were identified, prosecuted, and imprisoned. He underscored that such successes demonstrate the importance of inter-agency collaboration.

Similarly, Comptroller Adebambo acknowledged the historical ties between the Nigerian Immigration Service and the Police, noting that until 1963, NIS was an alien section within the Nigerian Police Force.

He congratulated CP Jimoh on his appointment and emphasized the importance of synergy in securing Lagos State. He highlighted the NIS’s role in border management and migration control, noting that the service had introduced an e-border system to curb illegal migration. This system includes surveillance masts equipped with cameras at border locations to enhance monitoring.

CP Jimoh expressed his appreciation for the visit and reaffirmed the Lagos State Police Command’s commitment to inter-agency collaboration.

He stressed that security is a shared responsibility and pledged to strengthen intelligence sharing and operational support among the agencies. He assured both Comptrollers of the Police Command’s willingness to work closely with the NCS and NIS to enhance security and combat criminal activities in the state.

The meeting underscored the collective determination of the three agencies to ensure a safer Lagos by fostering closer cooperation and intelligence-driven operations.
