The Rivers State Government has strongly denounced the circulation of false announcements falsely attributed to the Office of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), calling them deliberate efforts to mislead the public, incite fear, and disrupt peace.

In a statement signed by Dede Sampson Friday, Permanent Secretary of the Special Services Bureau, Office of the SSG, the government refuted claims that the Sole Administrator summoned suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara and Deputy Governor Professor Ngozi Nma Odu to explain appointments made in the past two years.

The statement, issued on Wednesday, affirmed that no such directive or announcement originated from the SSG’s office.

Friday urged the public to dismiss the report and similar falsehoods, warning that such misinformation is being spread by individuals aiming to destabilize the state.

He reiterated that all official communication from the Rivers State Government is released through verified platforms—such as the official website, authorised social media accounts, press releases from the Governor’s office or the SSG, and recognized media outlets.

Citizens were encouraged to fact-check information before sharing it and to rely solely on official government sources for accurate updates.

Meanwhile, the state continues to battle fake news attributed to the SSG’s office. Residents have also voiced frustration over the government’s slow response to such misinformation and the lack of swift action against those responsible.
