FALLEN TREES, STREETLIGHTS CAUSE GRIDLOCK ON LAGOS ROADS
Traffic disruptions were reported on Wednesday in parts of Ikoyi, Lagos, following incidents involving fallen trees and streetlights, according to an update by the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority.
In a statement posted at 7:38 a.m. on X (formerly Twitter), LASTMA confirmed that three streetlights fell along Osborne Road but noted that the incident had “no effect on traffic presently.”
However, a more serious situation unfolded at Bourdillon Road inward Alexandra roundabout, where a fallen tree completely obstructed traffic.
“Tree fell at Bourdillon inward Alexandra roundabout taking 100% of the road while our officers have diverted motorists to alternate road,” LASTMA stated.
Another case of a fallen tree was reported on Alexandra Road inward Parkview Estate, partially affecting the flow of vehicles.
“Another tree fell down at Alexandra inward Parkview Estate taking 50% of the road,” the agency added.
LASTMA assured all that officers were working to clear the affected areas and that the Lagos State Parks and Gardens Agency had been contacted for assistance.
The agency also urged motorists to drive with caution on approach.
Efforts to remove the fallen trees and restore normal traffic conditions are ongoing.
