IMO POLICE DETAIN TWO WOMEN SUSPECTED OF CHILD TRAFFICKING, SAVE FOUR-YEAR-OLD GIRL
The Imo State Police Command has arrested two women, Joy Ugwu from Idah in Kogi State and Rosella Michael from Zamba in the Federal Capital Territory, after they were found in Owerri with a four-year-old boy, Jaffa Umar.
According to a statement from the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Henry Okoye, the suspects were intercepted by operatives of the Scorpion Unit following credible intelligence.
Investigations revealed that Jaffa Umar, who speaks Hausa fluently, was abducted in Abuja while hawking vegetables. The suspects had brought him to Owerri and were allegedly negotiating to sell him for N2.7 million before they were apprehended.
A third accomplice, believed to be a nurse, is still on the run.
The child has since been safely reunited with his family through joint efforts between the Imo State Police Command and Zone 7 Police Headquarters in Abuja. The arrested suspects have been transferred to the Zonal Criminal Investigation Department (ZCID) in Abuja for further investigation and prosecution.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, reassured the public of the Command’s ongoing commitment to protecting vulnerable individuals and dismantling human trafficking networks. He also encouraged residents to report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station or call the emergency line: 0803 477 3600.
