The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.Gen.Olufemi Oluyede, asserts that the Nigerian Army will ensure justice for the individuals responsible for the recent homicides in Benue, Plateau, and various other regions of the nation.
Oluyede conveyed this information on Saturday in Akure during a media interaction for the second quarter of 2025, hosted by the Department of Civil-Military Affairs, Nigerian Army Headquarters.
The media dialogue was centered on the theme “Military – Media Collaboration: Solution for Augmented National Security and Advancement. ”
The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), represented by Major General Obinna Onubogu, General Officer Commanding (GOC) 2 Division, Nigerian Army, Ibadan, asserted that the military is fully dedicated to terminating the surge of violence, especially in North-Central Nigeria.
Oluyede, who indicated that the president had issued unequivocal directives, elaborated that they would maintain active involvement in Plateau, Benue, Kwara, and several other states currently facing insecurity.
“We are operationally engaged, fully deployed, and addressing the issue directly.
“In Benue specifically, you will observe in the forthcoming weeks, comprehensive security measures instituted to ensure that all ongoing activities there entirely cease. ”
“Communities and local stakeholders ought to assist military operations by disseminating prompt intelligence:
“The Army cannot be omnipresent. Nigeria is an expansive nation, yet our numbers are not as substantial as many presume.
“We depend considerably on the backing and collaboration of the local populace to furnish timely and credible information. “
“In certain instances, regrettably, individuals are not particularly supportive regarding the information they provide, which hinders our response time. This situation must improve if we are to succeed in this battle collectively,” he stated.
