LAGOS GOVT RELEASES APPROVED 2025/2026 HARMONISED SCHOOL CALENDAR

The Lagos State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, through the Office of Education Quality Assurance (OEQA), has unveiled the official 2025/2026 Harmonised Academic Calendar for all public and private schools operating below the tertiary level within the state.

The release follows a robust consultative process that engaged critical stakeholders in the education sector—including school associations, proprietors, principals, education professionals, and regulatory bodies—ensuring that the calendar reflects a broad consensus.

The final version was ratified during a stakeholders’ meeting and subsequently endorsed by the Honourable Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Jamiu Tolani Alli-Balogun.

Providing details of the calendar, the Coordinating Director of OEQA, Mr. Remi Abdul, highlighted the term dates as follows:

First Term: Monday, 15th September 2025 – Friday, 19th December 2025
Second Term: Monday, 12th January 2026 – Friday, 17th April 2026
Third Term: Monday, 4th May 2026 – Friday, 24th July 2026

Mr. Abdul noted that the calendar was designed in line with national education guidelines, public holiday schedules, and external examination timelines, while ensuring the minimum instructional weeks per term are met.

He added that the calendar accommodates the specific needs of international schools and promotes consistency across all primary and secondary schools in the state.

Schools have been urged to comply strictly with the approved timelines. OEQA will conduct regular monitoring and compliance checks to ensure the smooth rollout of the calendar statewide.

Mr. Abdul reaffirmed the Lagos State Government’s commitment to quality education delivery, academic excellence, and the creation of a predictable, stable, and learner-focused academic structure.
