The Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Lagos State Police Command on Friday rescued an elderly woman from attempting suicide by jumping into the lagoon from Carter Bridge.
The timely intervention occurred around 12:20 p.m. during a routine patrol, according to a statement posted on the RRS’s official X handle (@rrsLagos767).
After preventing the suicide attempt, the operatives took the unidentified woman to the RRS headquarters, where the Commander, CSP Shola Jejeloye, engaged with her to understand her situation.
“She was taken to the RRS Headquarters, where the Commander, CSP Shola Jejeloye, listened to her story,” the police stated.
In a show of compassion, the commander facilitated a private family meeting involving the woman, her husband, and their 30-year-old son to help resolve the underlying family issues.
Following the discussion, CSP Jejeloye offered the woman emotional counselling and presented her with a cash gift.
“The family expressed deep gratitude to the commander for the squad’s timely intervention, his heartfelt advice, and the financial support,” the RRS added.
The woman has since been released into the care of her husband and son, who were present during the intervention.
