Vice President Kashim Shettima on Monday paid a condolence visit to Aisha Buhari, widow of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, and her family in London, United Kingdom.

Shettima’s visit followed his arrival in London earlier that day, acting on the directive of President Bola Tinubu in response to the passing of the former Nigerian leader.

Accompanied by the President’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, the Vice President was received at the airport by Minister of Foreign Affairs Yusuf Tuggar and Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum.

President Tinubu had earlier confirmed Buhari’s death, which occurred in London at approximately 4:30 p.m. on Sunday.

He subsequently instructed Shettima and Gbajabiamila to travel to the UK to accompany the late President’s remains back to Nigeria.

Muhammadu Buhari, who served as Nigeria’s elected President from 2015 to 2023, and as military Head of State from January 1984 to August 1985, will be buried in his hometown of Daura on Tuesday, in accordance with Islamic rites.

In honor of the late leader, President Tinubu also directed that national flags be flown at half-mast across the country.
