BENUE: ORGANIZATION PRAISES IGP FOR SECURING RELEASE OF DETAINED BENUE LEADERS

The President of the Ado Descendants Union, Ondo State Chapter, Dr. John Onazi, has commended the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, for directing the liberation of three traditional leaders held in relation to a baseless abduction accusation in Benue State.
The Chiefs include Isaac Ebilima, Igwe Linus, and Daniel Nweze.
They were apprehended at the AIG Zone 4 headquarters in Makurdi subsequent to a complaint lodged by the Deputy Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Lami Danladi Ogenyi.
The Chiefs and the Executive Chairman of Ado Local Government, Engineer Oche Sunday Oche, were implicated in the complaint for allegedly managing an unlawful detention facility in the Obioye region of the local government.
However, after a comprehensive inquiry mandated by the IGP, the claims were determined to be unfounded.
Onazi applauded the Nigeria Police Force for unveiling the deception underlying the allegations and for honoring the rights of the traditional leaders.

A specialized police investigation team, directed by CSP Mannase Orhena from the IGP’s office in Abuja, visited Ado Local Government on Sunday, where residents of the community emphatically refuted the existence of any unlawful detention facility.
They specified that the location referenced in the complaint was, in reality, a public market and a Catholic Church where individuals freely congregate to trade and worship.
Following the field investigation and a thorough debriefing to the IGP on Monday, Egbetokun commanded the immediate release of the apprehended chiefs.
The incident has drawn attention to the misuse of petitions to intimidate community leaders and highlights the importance of due diligence in law enforcement processes.
