16 INMATES FLEE AFTER VIOLENTLY ATTACKING WARDERS IN KEFFI JAILBREAK

On Tuesday, sixteen detainees at the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Keffi (New), Nasarawa State, assaulted staff members of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) and compromised the security of the facility.
The representative of the Service, Abubakar Umar, who validated this in an announcement, stated that the incident transpired in the early morning hours.
He remarked, “A number of inmates violated the security of the facility and assaulted personnel on duty, compromising the situation and facilitating the escape of 16 inmates from custody.
“In the process of controlling the situation, five personnel from the Custodial Centre incurred varying levels of injury, with two currently in serious condition and receiving urgent medical care at a government healthcare facility.
“Seven of the escaped inmates have been apprehended and are now back in custody. ”
In the meantime, the Controller General of Corrections, Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche, has visited the facility and has mandated a comprehensive investigation into the escape.

Nwakuche, who promptly inspected the scene, stated that no staff member will be exempt if found responsible.
Additionally, he has instructed an immediate operation to recapture the escaped inmates in collaboration with allied security agencies.
“Members of the public are hereby urged to remain calm and vigilant and to promptly report any suspicious movements or sightings of fleeing inmates to the nearest security formation.
“While initial inquiries are in progress to ascertain the details regarding the escape, the Service assures the public of its steadfast dedication to public safety and the protection of all correctional institutions across the country,” the statement continued.
