The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has lamented the postponement by INEC in publishing the roster of its new leadership on the commission’s website.

The NNPP observed that this postponement has also impeded its seamless operations across the country, particularly in the lead-up to various state and other elections.

This information is included in a communication from NNPP’s National Secretary, Mr. Ogini Olaposi, issued on Friday.

The NNPP characterized INEC’s refusal to adhere to court directives regarding the new executive of the NNPP as disheartening.

“The NNPP is profoundly concerned and entirely disillusioned by INEC’s delay in adhering to binding judicial pronouncements that unequivocally recognized Dr. Agbo Major as the legitimate National Chairman of our esteemed party and Olaposi as our National Secretary.

“This constitutes the third reminder from our end to INEC, despite the commission’s active involvement in the legal processes culminating in the ruling of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory delivered on April 3, 2025 (Suit No: FCT/HC/CV/5518/2024).

“This ruling remains valid and obligatory, including that of the Abia State High Court.

“INEC’s delay undermines the integrity of our constitutional democracy and the rule of law, particularly in light of the convention mandated by the court that resulted in the formation of the new NNPP executive in March.

“INEC’s continual delays represent administrative negligence that impedes our party from fully engaging in forthcoming electoral procedures,” the party asserted.

As per the party, the ambiguity from the commission is the reason certain expelled members continue to assert leadership claims over the NNPP.

“The expelled members are exploiting INEC’s shortcomings to weaken our party, fully aware of its increasing popularity and robust grassroots support throughout Nigeria.

“This constitutes a troubling assault on the Constitution, the judiciary, and the democratic entitlements of millions of Nigerians.

“The commission’s actions threaten to further destabilize the nation politically by diminishing public confidence in its role as the electoral arbiter. ”

According to the party, the most concerning aspect is that the expelled members have utilized the NNPP platform to propagate baseless allegations against the current administration, which has the potential to incite unrest.

“We have not overlooked the allegation that the Federal Government was marginalizing the North in terms of infrastructure, made against President Bola Tinubu by our expelled 2023 presidential candidate, Sen. Rabiu Kwankwaso.

“A multitude of issues exists where Kwankwaso and members of his Kwankwasiya movement, whose Memorandum of Understanding with the NNPP was annulled after the presidential elections, continue to make reckless statements against the government, purporting to speak on behalf of our members.

“We have had to issue statements disavowing those positions; however, we believe INEC could simplify the matter by fulfilling its responsibilities as an impartial adjudicator.

“We recall our correspondences dated April 11 and April 14, 2025, and our most recent final reminder on July 30, 2025, to the commission, yet it persists in its delay. ”
In accordance with the party’s statement, both Nigerians and the global community are now observing meticulously to determine the extent to which INEC is prepared to engage on this issue, which evidently restricts the NNPP’s chances to partake in elections nationwide.

“Let it be asserted that the NNPP shall not be silenced, intimidated, or subdued.

“We will utilize every lawful measure, including contempt actions and additional coercive legal strategies, to ensure that INEC adheres to the law.

“The NNPP remains steadfast that the rule of law will ultimately triumph over the schemes of those who fear our increasing strength and popularity.

“Democracy cannot endure in Nigeria if those entrusted with its safeguarding continue to compromise honor and integrity.

“Enough is sufficient. Nigerians are entitled to better, and we shall not waver in our commitment to uphold the integrity of our party and the sanctity of our democracy. ”
