BAYELSA GOVERNOR NAMES NEW HEAD OF SERVICE

The Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri, has sanctioned the appointment of Dr. Wisdom Ebiye Sawyer as the new Head of the State Civil Service.

The declaration was included in a communiqué issued by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Daniel Alabrah, on Tuesday in Yenagoa.

Dr. Sawyer, who formerly held the position of Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Health, takes over from Mrs. Biobelemoye Charles-Onyema, who retired on August 31.

Born on May 14, 1970, in the Odi community of the Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area, Sawyer commenced his career in the Bayelsa State Civil Service on June 8, 1998, as a medical officer. He received his primary education at Town School, Okrika, and completed his secondary education at Okrika Grammar School in Rivers State, before earning a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree from the University of Port Harcourt in 1996.

He also possesses a Master’s degree in Public Health from the University of Lagos (2000) and a Part 2 Fellowship in Public Health from the National Post-Graduate Medical College in Lagos (2010).

At present, he has successfully defended his dissertation for a Doctor of Philosophy in Clinical Sciences and Public Health at Niger Delta University. Dr. Sawyer is also affiliated with the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies.
