The presidential nominee of the Labour Party in the 2023 general elections, Peter Obi, convened a private meeting with former President Goodluck Jonathan in Abuja on Thursday.

“Today in Abuja, I met with my very dear elder brother, statesman, and leader, former President Goodluck Jonathan. We had a fruitful closed-door meeting and discussed the state of our dear nation,” wrote Obi.
While specifics of the meeting were not disclosed, this encounter unfolds amid ongoing discussions regarding Nigeria’s political trajectory and the governance quality under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
Jonathan, who governed Nigeria from 2010 to 2015, has recently established himself as a mediator in national and continental matters, particularly in conflict resolution and efforts to enhance democracy across Africa.
Obi, for his part, has continued to engage with stakeholders following his notable performance in the 2023 elections, in which he secured third place behind Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress and Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party.
This meeting marks the latest in Obi’s series of consultations with significant political figures as dialogue surrounding Nigeria’s prospective political realignments intensifies.
