The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a suspected fraudster, Abdullahi Saliu, who allegedly posed as a senior military officer and defrauded unsuspecting victims of over ₦1.3 million in a fake employment scheme.

In a statement on Sunday titled *“Ondo Police Command Arrest Fake Army Colonel Over ₦1.37m Employment Scam”*, the command’s spokesperson, DSP Ayanlade Olushola, said the suspect was apprehended at Top Quality Hotel, where he had been parading himself as a colonel in the Nigerian Army.

According to police, Saliu allegedly deceived two women, Oshoade Janet and Daisi Remilekun Joy, under the false pretext of securing jobs for their sons in the Nigeria Customs Service and the Nigeria Immigration Service. He reportedly collected ₦1,377,000 from the victims, which he converted to personal use.

Investigations revealed that the suspect’s fraudulent activities extended beyond Ondo State to Edo, Delta, and Kogi states. He was also found to have impersonated officers of other security agencies, including the Navy, Customs, and Immigration, in previous scams.

“He has long been on the command’s list as a notorious job racketeer, known for impersonating senior officers of different security agencies,” DSP Olushola said.

The suspect has since been arraigned before Magistrate Court 1 in Ondo State for prosecution.

The command described the arrest as part of its broader efforts to clamp down on fraud and reiterated its commitment to safeguarding residents.

“This feat represents one of the several cases successfully cracked by the Ondo State Police Command in recent times. The command seizes this opportunity to reaffirm its commitment to protecting the lives, property, and interests of all residents, while ensuring that fraudsters and criminally minded elements are brought to justice,” the statement added.
