The Lagos State Government has announced traffic diversions ahead of the Electric Powerboat Racing Championship (E1 Series Event), Africa’s first electric powerboat race, scheduled to hold on the Lagos Inland Waterways, Victoria Island Lagoon, from Saturday, October 4, to Sunday, October 5, 2025.

In a statement signed on Tuesday by the Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, the government said there would be a total road closure at the 1st Lekki Junction inward Ozumba Mbadiwe during the event.

To ease movement, motorists are advised to use the following alternative routes:

From Ajah to Lekki Make a U-turn at Lekki 1st Junction by the Pedestrian Bridge, link Yesufu Abiodun to Maroko Police Station, access City of David, connect Ligali Ayorinde to Ajose Adeogun, then proceed through Eko Hotel Roundabout, Ahmadu Bello Way, Independence Bridge, and McEwen/Onikan.

From Ajah inward CMS Use Abraham Adesanya to Ogonbo Road, connect Okun Ajah Road, then take Coastal Road to Ahmadu Bello Way, Independence Bridge, and McEwen/Onikan.

From Lekki to Ikoyi/Mainland Go through Admiralty Way, connect Lekki Link Bridge, then Alexander Road/Bourdillon Way to Gerrard Road and Osborne Road.

From Lekki to CMS Connect Yesufu Abiodun to Oniru Road, then to Aboyade Cole Road, Ligali Ayorinde, Eko Hotel Roundabout, and Ahmadu Bello Way.

From CMS/Ozumba Mbadiwe to Ajah Motorists will enjoy free traffic flow towards Ajah and environs.

The government assured motorists that adequate parking will be available at Fidelity Bank, Access Bank, and the Law School premises in Victoria Island. It also confirmed that the coastal road will remain open during the two-day diversion.

Osiyemi urged road users to cooperate with Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) officials, who will be strategically deployed to ensure smooth traffic flow.

He appealed for patience from motorists, stressing that the diversion was part of the traffic management plan for the E1 Boat Race event.
