The Delta State Police Command has held an interactive lecture with members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in the state, focusing on cybercrime, citizens’ rights and responsibilities, police accountability, law enforcement, and community policing.
Police spokesman SP Bright Edafe, in a statement from Warri on Wednesday, said the session was in line with the directive of the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to revive engagements with corps members nationwide. He added that the state Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, instructed him to deliver the lecture at the NYSC orientation camp as part of activities marking Nigeria’s 65th Independence anniversary.
The session, described as insightful and interactive, allowed corps members to ask questions and receive clarifications on issues ranging from policing to civic responsibilities. Edafe noted that the participants were urged to remain good ambassadors of Nigeria, avoid crime and violence, and uphold honesty and patriotism in their future pursuits.
The statement added that corps members were reminded of their rights and responsibilities under the Constitution, including assisting law enforcement in maintaining peace within communities. Dedicated phone lines were also shared with the corps members for lodging complaints against police misconduct or abuse.
