Troops of the 6 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, in collaboration with operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), have arrested two fake policemen in Taraba State for allegedly transporting cannabis in vehicles disguised as police patrol vans.

Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, Lt. Umar Muhammad, said in a statement on Wednesday that the suspects were intercepted at Takum Junction, Wukari Local Government Area, following credible intelligence.

The suspects, dressed in mobile police uniforms, were caught with two Toyota Hilux vehicles loaded with cannabis. Investigations later confirmed that none of the occupants were serving police personnel.

According to the statement, the cannabis-laden vehicles had been loaded from Akure, Ondo State, and were headed to Adamawa before the interception. While two suspects were arrested, others abandoned one of the vehicles and fled the scene on sighting the troops.

“A total of 1,134 blocks of cannabis were recovered from the two vehicles. Both the suspects and the recovered exhibits have been handed over to the NDLEA office in Wukari for further investigation and prosecution,” the statement added.

The Commander of the 6 Brigade, Brigadier General Kingsley Uwa, commended the troops and NDLEA operatives for their synergy, stressing that Taraba would remain unsafe for criminals. He also urged residents to continue providing credible information to security agencies to aid ongoing operations in the state.
