POPULAR TIKTOKER FACES JAIL TIME IN KANO OVER CONTROVERSIAL VIRAL VIDEO

A Magistrate Court convened in Kano has mandated the detention of renowned TikToker, Ashiru Idris, popularly recognized as Mai Wushirya, at a correctional facility for allegedly disseminating inappropriate videos featuring a dwarf woman on social media.
The directive, issued in a case overseen by Magistrate Halima Wali of Court No. 7, required that the social media influencer remain in custody for a duration of two weeks pending additional proceedings.
It is pertinent to note that officials from the Kano State Censorship Board apprehended Mai Wushirya last week after footage of him without a shirt engaging in what authorities characterized as “immoral and degrading behavior” circulated widely online.
The Censorship Board asserted that the videos violated the state’s censorship statutes, which forbid the production, publication, or distribution of obscene or sexually suggestive materials.
In remarks to the media following the court session, the Board’s Public Relations Officer (PRO), Abdullahi Sani Sulaiman, confirmed that the court also mandated the presence of the woman depicted in the contentious video.
He stated, “The court has additionally commanded that his partner appear in court prior to the continuation of the hearing. Even before we formally charged him, we sought his cooperation in locating her, but he declined. Nevertheless, with the court’s order now in place, I am confident we will succeed in bringing her forward. ”
Sulaiman further revealed that investigations indicate the woman may have relocated to Zamfara State, but efforts remain ongoing to locate her and return her to Kano to face trial alongside the TikToker.
He also mentioned that “the subsequent hearing is anticipated to occur following the conclusion of the two-week remand period. ”
It is also worth noting that Kano State has recently intensified its efforts to combat social media content creators accused of promoting immorality or infringing upon the state’s censorship regulations.
Consequently, numerous TikTokers, skit producers, and musicians have been arrested or disciplined for generating or disseminating content considered detrimental to public morals under the state’s censorship regulatory framework.
