SUPER EAGLES TO FACE GABON IN 2026 WORLD CUP CAF PLAYOFF SEMI-FINALS

Nigeria national football team will clash with Gabon national football team in the semi-finals of the CAF playoffs for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The high-stakes encounter is scheduled for Thursday, 13 November 2025, in Morocco.
Gabon secured their playoff berth after finishing second in Group F with 25 points — just one behind African champions Côte d’Ivoire national football team. They will now face a resurgent Super Eagles side that booked their playoff spot with a commanding 4–0 victory over Benin national football team in Uyo on Tuesday.
A win against Gabon would see Nigeria advance to Sunday’s final, 16 November, also in Morocco, where they would meet either Cameroon national football team or DR Congo national football team. The winner of that tie will progress to the intercontinental playoffs in March 2026, to be staged across two venues in Mexico.
The intercontinental tournament will feature six teams from five confederations — one each from Asia, Africa, South America, and Oceania, plus two from CONCACAF — battling for the final two World Cup spots. The four lowest-ranked teams will meet first in knockout ties, with the winners moving on to face the top two for a place at the tournament.
Nigeria qualified for the CAF playoffs as one of the four best runners-up, finishing second in Group C behind South Africa national football team. Their emphatic win over Benin, powered by a hat-trick from Victor Osimhen and a late strike from Frank Onyeka, proved decisive.
As Eric Chelle’s side gear up for the showdown with Gabon, expectations are high that the Super Eagles can move one step closer to sealing a return to the global stage in 2026 after missing the 2022 edition in Qatar.
