OBI’S FCT SCHOOL RENOVATION CLAIM DRAWS RESPONSE FROM WIKE’S AIDE
The Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication and Social Media to the FCT Minister, Lere Olayinka, has condemned remarks made by the 2023 Labour Party Presidential Candidate, Peter Obi, accusing him of pursuing media visibility through “unfounded critiques” of government initiatives in the FCT.
After his visitation to LEA Primary School in Kapwa, Abuja, alongside the African Democratic Congress Chairmanship candidate for Abuja Municipal Area Council, Dr. Moses Paul, on Wednesday, the former Governor of Anambra State expressed dismay at the school’s condition, labeling it as “a national embarrassment” that “reveals Nigeria’s feeble dedication to education. ”
Obi expressed astonishment upon discovering classrooms devoid of chairs or toilets, asserting that during his tenure as governor, he prioritized visits to all primary and secondary schools, noting that he was the only governor to have left public resources for the state’s benefit.
In response, Olayinka stated on Thursday that the former Anambra state governor was vying for media attention by positioning himself as a critic of everything, including the most absurd matters, while highlighting the current FCT Administration’s commitment to the renovation of 73 schools across the six Area Councils, with 21 already fully revitalized.
“In the FCT, authentic and verifiable progress is unfolding. Currently, 73 schools are under renovation across the six Area Councils in the FCT, with 21 having been completely restored,” he remarked.
The media aide further criticized Obi for his perceived inability to address analogous issues during his governorship of Anambra State.
Additionally, he accused Obi of mismanagement of finances throughout his tenure as governor, pointing out that the state is still “endeavoring to remedy the deterioration he left in his wake. ”
He stated, “Contrary to Obi, who took no measures to enhance the education sector during his governorship of Anambra State, the Wike-led FCTA has been actively constructing and refurbishing schools. To date, 102 contracts have been awarded for the renovation of schools in the FCT, with 21 schools fully restored and ongoing works in progress at others.
“Had he executed the same remarkable initiatives he has been falsely claiming he could achieve in four years during his governorship of Anambra State, the region would have emerged as a benchmark for development.
“During his eight-year tenure as governor, he opted to keep the state’s finances in his own account rather than allocate funds for schools, roads, hospitals, and other essential infrastructure. Anambra State continues to grapple with the aftermath of Obi’s eight years of misguided governance, with his successors straining to address the decay he left behind. ”
Olayinka dismissed Obi’s campaign assertions regarding altering Nigeria’s course within four years, characterizing the former Presidential Candidate as an “Internally Displaced Politician in search of a permanent foothold in the media landscape. ”
The identical Obi remarked yesterday that he possesses the ability to alter Nigeria’s course within four years, and I am urging him to demonstrate to Nigerians how he transformed Anambra State over eight years. It is amusing that an individual who should be concerned about lacking a platform to compete in the 2027 election has redefined himself as a political drifter.
“Under which political party is Mr. One Shoe pursuing the 2027 presidential election? Will any party still present its presidential nomination to him solely because he can fabricate stories about possessing one shoe and one wristwatch, as the Labour Party did in 2023? ” he continued.
