WE DIDN’T CONTRACT CHINESE FIRM TO FIGHT BANDITRY — KEBBI GOVT
The Kebbi State Government has refuted media assertions suggesting that it engaged a Chinese security firm, G-Safety, to aid in the battle against banditry and other criminal endeavors within the state.
Several media outlets reported on Wednesday that Governor Nasir Idris had welcomed the international security consortium to the state as part of renewed initiatives aimed at bolstering security operations and assisting in the combat against criminality.
Idris reportedly met with the delegation on Wednesday at the Government House in Birnin Kebbi, where discussions were centered on potential collaborations in intelligence sharing, capacity development, and technological assistance for security agencies functioning in the state.
In a communiqué released on Friday, the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Ahmed Idris, characterized the report as inaccurate, misleading, and groundless, urging the public to dismiss it entirely.
The statement indicated that the administration of Governor Nasir Idris has neither signed any agreements nor entered into any contracts with foreign security entities.
“The attention of the Kebbi State Government has been drawn to a recent media report asserting that the State Government has contracted a Chinese security firm, G-Safety, to confront banditry and related offenses within the state.
“The Government wishes to unequivocally declare that no such agreement or contract has been finalized with any foreign security organization,” the communiqué added.
The CPS stressed that the Idris administration remains steadfastly devoted to strengthening security in partnership with existing Nigerian security forces, including the Armed Forces, Police, and other paramilitary groups.
He reiterated that the government’s foremost objective is to ensure enduring peace, safeguard lives and property, and guarantee the overall safety of residents throughout the state.
Idris further urged the public and media agencies to verify information with official government sources prior to dissemination, cautioning against the propagation of unverified claims that could mislead citizens.
The media reports that since assuming office, Idris has prioritized security as one of his administration’s chief concerns, promoting military operations and community-based initiatives aimed at restoring peace to unrest-prone regions within the state.
