The Ondo State Police Command has arrested two suspects, a mother and her son, over their alleged involvement in an attempted ritual activity in Ile-Oluji, headquarters of Ile-Oluji/Oke Igbo Local Government Area of the state.

The suspects, identified as Maria, 53, and her son, Adewale, 28, were apprehended on December 27, 2025, following credible intelligence received by the police.

In a statement issued on Saturday by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Mr Abayomi Jimoh, the arrests were made by operatives of the SWAT Tactical Team acting on a tip-off from a concerned resident who reported suspicious activities linked to ritual practices.

According to the police, the operation led to the successful rescue of a 10-year-old boy who was allegedly planned to be used for ritual purposes. The victim has since been taken to a hospital for medical examination and treatment.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Maria allegedly conspired with her son to engage the services of an herbalist to carry out a money ritual involving the minor. The suspects reportedly confessed to the crime and are currently in police custody.

Jimoh said investigations were ongoing, adding that the suspects would be charged to court upon the conclusion of the probe.

The police command reiterated its commitment to crime prevention and urged residents to continue providing timely and credible information to aid security operations across the state.
