The Federal Fire Service (FFS) has reported that two persons lost their lives while property worth N1.59 billion was destroyed by fire incidents in Bauchi State between January and December 2025.

The disclosure was made by the Public Relations Officer of the Bauchi State Command of the service, Umar Lawal, in a fire outbreak statistics released to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Abuja.

Lawal said the command responded to 167 fire incidents within the period under review, saving four lives and properties valued at N2.86 billion.

According to him, the incidents affected public and government buildings, private residences, educational institutions, markets, petrol and gas stations, as well as automobiles.

Providing a breakdown, Lawal explained that in 10 fire incidents involving public and government buildings, properties worth N23 million were destroyed, while assets valued at N855.1 million were salvaged.

He added that fires in 80 private dwellings led to the loss of properties worth N605 million, with N1.4 billion worth of property saved.

According to the statistics, 15 fire incidents at petrol and gas stations led to losses of N23.7 million, while properties valued at N53 million were salvaged.

Similarly, fires involving automobiles caused losses estimated at N70 million, with N33 million worth of property saved across 15 incidents.

Lawal attributed most of the fire outbreaks in the state to electrical equipment malfunction, power surges, illegal storage of petroleum products, accidents and fires originating from refuse dumps.

He advised residents to ensure proper handling and safekeeping of electrical appliances when not in use, warning against overloading electrical circuits.

“Fire safety is essential in all aspects of human activities. Preventing fire outbreaks helps to save lives, property and the environment,” he said, stressing that overloading electrical appliances increases the risk of fire outbreaks.
