The Kano State Government has donated N25 million to the families of five Joint Task Force (JTF) personnel who lost their lives during a clash with bandits in Shanono Local Government Area of the state.

The donation was disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday by Sani Surajo Abubakar on behalf of the Director-General, Special Services, Kano Government House.

According to the statement, the funds were presented to the bereaved families at the headquarters of the 3 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Bukavu Barracks, as part of efforts to support the families of the fallen security operatives.

Governor Abba Yusuf said the gesture was aimed at cushioning the impact of the loss on the families of the personnel who paid the ultimate price in the line of duty. He stressed that their sacrifices would not be forgotten, assuring that the state government would continue to stand by their families.

Represented by the Director-General, Special Services, Kano Government House, Maj. Gen. Sani Muhammad (retd.), the governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening collaboration with security agencies to ensure lasting peace and security across the state. He added that the government would continue to take decisive measures to curb the activities of bandits and other criminal elements in Kano.

“On behalf of the government and people of Kano State, Governor Yusuf extends heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and prays that Almighty Allah grants them eternal rest, forgives their shortcomings, and gives their families, as well as the entire JTF, the strength and fortitude to bear the loss,” the statement said.

Earlier, the Commander of 3 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Brig. Gen. Ahmad Tukur, commended the governor for the support, describing the donation as a morale booster and a source of encouragement to officers and men on active duty.

Each of the affected families received N5 million. The beneficiaries include the families of late Corporal Musa Musa, late Lance Corporal Sabidu Hamidu, late Corporal Abdulsalam Jibril, late Lance Corporal Joseph Moses, and Mallam Umar Sule, a member of a local vigilante group.

The donation comes amid ongoing military operations in Kano State, where no fewer than 43 bandits have reportedly been neutralised since criminal elements infiltrated parts of Shanono and two other local government areas bordering Katsina State in November 2025.
