South African Premiership side Chippa United have confirmed the departure of Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali following his formal request to leave the club.
In a statement posted on its official X handle on Thursday, the Port Elizabeth-based club disclosed that the 28-year-old shot-stopper submitted a request to depart, which was approved after deliberation by the management.
“Chippa United Football Club confirms that Stanley Nwabali has formally submitted a request to depart the club. After careful consideration, the club has agreed to grant his release,” the statement read.
The Chilli Boys expressed appreciation for Nwabali’s service, commitment and professionalism during his time at the club, noting that his contributions would be fondly remembered.
“We would like to sincerely thank Stanley Nwabali for the years of service, commitment, and professionalism he has shown during his time at Chippa United Football Club. His contribution to the club will always be appreciated,” the club added.
Chippa United also wished the Nigerian international success in the next chapter of his career.
Nwabali joined the South African side in 2022 but rose to wider prominence following his standout performances for Nigeria at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire, where he played a key role in the Super Eagles’ run to the final.
As of the time of filing this report, the goalkeeper’s next destination has not been officially announced, with speculation expected to intensify over his future club.
