KWARA STATE TO AIRLIFT 67 CHRISTIAN PILGRIMS FOR 2026 HOLY LAND VISIT

The Kwara State Government has announced plans to airlift 67 Christian intending pilgrims for the 2026 pilgrimage, urging them to uphold the state’s and Nigeria’s integrity during the Holy Land visit.
The Deputy Governor, Mr Kayode Alabi, in a statement issued Thursday in Ilorin, stressed the need for discipline, good conduct, and responsible behaviour among the pilgrims. He encouraged them to see themselves as ambassadors of Kwara State and Nigeria, saying their actions abroad must reflect the country’s values.
Alabi, represented by the Senior Special Adviser on Religion (Christian Matters), Rev. Timothy Akangbe, spoke at a seminar organised by the Kwara State Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board. The event, themed “Pilgrimage as a Tool for Spiritual Development,” was held Wednesday at the ECWA Church Chapel, Challenge Road, Ilorin.
“Intending pilgrims must conduct themselves well in the Holy Land and safeguard the integrity of Nigeria at all times,” Alabi said through his aide. He also advised pilgrims to prepare adequately for the journey, including packing appropriate clothing to cope with the cold weather in Jordan and Israel.
Supporting the remarks, the Chairman of the Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board, Evangelist Prof. Timothy Opoola, advised pilgrims to be mindful of local conditions, observe host country rules, and note differences in food during the pilgrimage.
Officials from agencies including the National Orientation Agency, Department of State Services, Immigration Service, and National Drug Law Enforcement Agency provided relevant orientations to the pilgrims. The seminar concluded with prayers for a safe and hitch-free journey.
