Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani on Thursday visited the remaining church worshippers who were recently freed after weeks in captivity following a bandit attack on churches in Kurmin Wali village, Kajuru Local Government Area.

The victims, abducted during a church service on January 18, 2026, are currently receiving medical care and psychosocial support at the Women and Children Shelter in Kaduna, where the governor met with them.

The attack occurred when armed men invaded three churches, firing sporadically to instil fear before abducting worshippers and leading them into surrounding forests. Reports indicate that 177 worshippers were kidnapped, though around 80 managed to escape while being taken into the bush and later sought refuge in neighbouring villages.

The Village Head of Kurmin Wali, Ishaku Dan’azumi, confirmed the release of the remaining victims in a telephone interview, stating that he received information early Tuesday morning that they were freed.

Efforts to obtain confirmation from the Kaduna State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Mansir Hassan, were unsuccessful at the time of reporting.
