The Lagos State Taskforce has stepped up its operations targeting commercial motorcycles, popularly known as Okada, on highways and restricted routes, warning even uniformed personnel against flouting traffic laws.

CSP Adetayo Akerele, Chairman of the Taskforce, issued the stern warning while addressing security officers who had visited his office seeking the release of impounded motorcycles. He stressed that all law enforcement personnel must comply with traffic and environmental regulations.

“I am not wicked, but I am also not weak, and I do not want to be perceived as a weak leader,” CSP Akerele said, emphasizing the importance of upholding professional standards and the reputational risks for security agencies when officers violate the law.

He added, “As security operatives, we understand the need to reach duty posts on time. However, the means you adopt must fall within the ambit of the law. If you are properly dressed in your official uniform and not carrying passengers, your colleagues may exercise discretion to avoid arrest.”

The Taskforce Chairman also condemned the use of official uniforms to evade enforcement, describing it as embarrassing to the State and the nation. “Military, paramilitary, and police personnel should not use uniforms worn by distinguished veterans as immunity to operate commercial motorcycles, especially when they are expected to combat criminal activities within their jurisdictions,” he stated.

Meanwhile, enforcement operations have continued across major areas including Ikoyi, Abraham Adesanya Junction, Ogombo, Coastal Road, Ajah, Falomo, and Marina, where Okada operators were found causing traffic disturbances. From Saturday, January 31, 2026, through the latest exercise, 124 motorcycles were confiscated, restoring order in affected areas.

All impounded motorcycles are to be forfeited to the State Government through the courts, in line with the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law of 2018.
