EIGHT SUSPECTED KIDNAPPERS NABBED IN EDO AS SECURITY FORCES RECOVER ARMS, DRUGS

No fewer than eight suspected kidnappers and illicit drug dealers have been arrested by troops of the 4 Brigade of the Nigerian Army in Benin City, Edo State.
The suspects were apprehended during a joint operation involving the Edo State Police Command, the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and the Edo State Security Corps (ESSC). The operation, code-named IGBO DANU 1, targeted criminal activities across the state.
The arrest was confirmed in a statement issued in Benin City by Captain Kennedy Anyanwu, Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the Brigade.
According to Anyanwu, the operation was carried out on February 4, 2026, to flush out kidnappers and other criminal elements, as well as rescue victims in Osara Community of Etsako West Local Government Area, alongside Auchi and Okpella communities in Edo North Senatorial District.
The suspects were identified as Jamilu Mohammad, Kasim Abu, Braimoh Affeez, Sulaiman Hamisu, Lawan Umaru, Bawa Auwal, Musa Umaru, and Amodu Attai.
Items recovered from them included one English-made pump-action gun, four live cartridges, and one locally fabricated pistol. Also recovered were a Point-of-Sale (POS) machine, two cutlasses, a Nikon digital camera, two Android phones, a metal hook, five bottles of codeine syrup, two weighing scales, and quantities of substances suspected to be cannabis sativa, tramadol, ice, loud, and colos.
The sum of ₦87,550 was also recovered during the operation.

Captain Anyanwu said the suspects and all recovered items have been handed over to the Edo State Police Command for further investigation and prosecution.
Meanwhile, the Commander of 4 Brigade, Brigadier General Ahmed Balogun, who led the operation, commended the swift response and effective collaboration among the security agencies involved.
He warned that Edo State would not be a safe haven for terrorists, kidnappers, or other criminal elements, reaffirming the Brigade’s commitment to protecting lives and property in the state. Balogun also expressed appreciation to the General Officer Commanding, 2 Division of the Nigerian Army, Major General Chinedu Nnebeife, for his strategic guidance and support.
