The Oyo State Police Command has arrested a 38-year-old man, Saheed Eegunjobi, for allegedly attacking a commercial motorcyclist in Ibadan. The arrest was announced on Monday by the state Police Public Relations Officer, Ayanlade Olayinka.
According to the police, the arrest followed a joint effort between officers and community-based security groups, notably the Agbekoya Vigilante Group, which apprehended the suspect and handed him over to a patrol team at the Idi-Aro Divisional Headquarters.
Olayinka explained that the suspect, along with an accomplice who is still at large, posed as passengers and boarded the motorcycle from the Mokola area before launching the attack in Modina, Idi-Aro.
He said, “Upon reaching Modina Area, Idi-Aro, the suspects stopped the motorcycle and attacked the rider, Sakiru Tiamiyu, 32, striking him on the head with a cutlass.”
The victim fell off the motorcycle during the assault, while the accomplice fled with the stolen bike. The arrested suspect was apprehended at the scene by passersby and handed over to police through the Agbekoya Vigilante personnel.

During interrogation, Eegunjobi reportedly confessed to the crime. The injured rider was immediately taken to a medical facility for treatment, while police visited the scene and hospital to begin investigations. Photographs were taken, and efforts are ongoing to capture the fleeing accomplice and recover the motorcycle.
Olayinka highlighted that the operation showcased the importance of collaboration between the police, community-based partners, and the public in fighting crime. He also acknowledged the support of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, in strengthening community policing nationwide.
“The Oyo State Police Command remains resolute in its fight against crime, prioritizing the safety of lives and property through intelligence-driven and collaborative policing,” the spokesperson said.
The command recalled a similar incident in 2025, when Lagos police arrested Friday Onu after a viral video showed him assaulting a female commercial driver along the Lekki-Epe Expressway.
