The Gombe State Police Command has extended the relaxation of motorcycle movement restrictions from 7:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. throughout the holy month of Ramadan and beyond.
The development was announced in a statement issued on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, who said the decision followed extensive security consultations.
According to the Command, the adjustment is aimed at accommodating the increased religious, social and communal activities that typically take place during Ramadan, as well as the post-Ramadan festive period when community engagements remain high.
The Commissioner of Police, Umar Chuso, reassured residents of the Command’s preparedness to maintain law and order despite the extended movement window.
“The Command remains unwavering in its commitment to maintaining peace, protecting lives and property, and ensuring that the relaxed movement window does not compromise public safety,” he said.
Chuso added that adequate security measures had been deployed across the state to safeguard worshippers, commuters and other residents during and after the fasting period.
While announcing the extension, the Command cautioned motorcyclists to strictly adhere to traffic regulations and safety guidelines. Riders were advised to obey traffic laws, avoid reckless or dangerous riding, ensure proper registration of their motorcycles and carry valid identification at all times.
The police also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
The Command commended religious leaders, community elders and residents for their cooperation during the consultation process, reiterating its commitment to balancing public safety with respect for cultural and religious values.
