Human rights lawyer Deji Adeyanju has called on the newly appointed Inspector General of Police, Tunji Disu, to correct the missteps of his predecessor, Kayode Egbetokun.

The media reports that Egbetokun resigned on Tuesday following prolonged disputes over the legality of his service extension granted by President Bola Tinubu.

In a message congratulating Disu, Adeyanju cautioned that “there is no friend in the jungle” and warned of conflict if the new IGP fails to take the right path.

He stated, “Congratulations, my personal person. This is a unique opportunity to correct all the wrongs and abuses the Nigerian Police have been known for.

“If you don’t do the right thing, Egbon, there’s no friend in the jungle; we will start fighting. You have a rare chance to etch your name in history.

“Reform the police, uphold citizens’ human rights, and implement President Tinubu’s directive, which Egbetokun did not fully follow, including withdrawing police officers from VIP duties so they can focus on national security. End the culture of extorting citizens.”
