Suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists have attacked a nomadic settlement in Wuturo, Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State, killing a herder and rustling about 1,400 sheep.

The Public Relations Officer of the Borno State Police Command, ASP Nahum Daso, confirmed the incident in a statement on Thursday, adding that another person sustained injuries during the attack.

According to Daso, the settlement was attacked on Tuesday at about 10:30 p.m., when the assailants arrived on five motorcycles.

“The Borno State Police Command condemns the recent attack on a nomadic settlement in Wuturo, Konduga Local Government Area, allegedly carried out by suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists,” the statement said.

“According to a report received from the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association in Konduga at the Konduga Police Division, the incident occurred on March 10, 2026, at about 10:30 p.m., when unknown gunmen riding on five motorcycles invaded the settlement,” the statement said.

Daso disclosed that preliminary investigations showed that during the attack, Ahmadu Baida, 40, sustained fatal gunshot injuries, while Mohammadu Baida, 30, suffered a gunshot wound to his left leg.

He further revealed that the assailants rustled about 1,400 sheep belonging to the herders before fleeing the scene.

He added that upon receiving the report, a joint security team comprising the police, military and other security stakeholders — including the Civilian Joint Task Force and local hunters — led by the Divisional Police Officer in Konduga, quickly mobilised to the scene.

“The victims were taken to a hospital where Ahmadu Baida was confirmed dead on arrival by a medical doctor, while the injured victim is currently receiving treatment and responding well,” Daso said.

He added that following the incident and on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, Borno State Command, Naziru Abdulmajid, the command has activated coordinated operational measures with other security agencies and community stakeholders to track down the attackers, prevent further assaults and recover the rustled livestock.

Daso also disclosed that tactical and intelligence resources have been strategically deployed across the affected area and neighbouring communities to reinforce security presence.

He further conveyed the command’s condolences to the family of the deceased and assured residents of its continued commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.

The police spokesperson urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious individuals or movements.

Meanwhile, The Media reports that the development comes just days after terrorists launched a coordinated assault on an army base in Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State, engaging troops in a fierce gun battle that reportedly lasted nearly 24 hours and resulted in the deaths of several soldiers, including a commanding officer.

Despite ongoing military operations, sporadic attacks on communities and security formations continue to hinder efforts to restore lasting peace in the region.
