The Senate has approved the appointment of Usman Dakingari as a non–career ambassador.
The upper house also approved Ismail Yusuf to be the chairman and chief executive officer of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON).
On February 10, President Bola Tinubu asked the Senate to confirm Dakingari’s appointment as a non–career ambassador.
Tinubu also asked the Senate to confirm Yusuf as chairman of NAHCON on February 17.
The confirmations came after the Senate considered a report from the committee on foreign affairs.
Sani Bello, a senator representing Niger North and chairman of the committee, presented the report during a Senate meeting.
Bello said the committee checked the nominees and found them fit for the jobs they were offered.
He said, “The committee, having already checked the nominees with Mr. President, found them suitable for the positions they were nominated for.”
He added, “Having checked them successfully, on behalf of the committee, I would like to thank the Senate and Mr. President for all the support and cooperation.”
After the report was presented, the Senate approved the nominees.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio congratulated the nominees after their approval.
“I congratulate the nominees and wish them very fruitful endeavours in their various assignments,” Akpabio said.
“I thank the president for fishing out the right people for national assignments. Congratulations to all.”
