Confusion broke out on Saturday at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) congress in Taraba State after the congress committee named two different individuals as the party’s consensus chairman, triggering outrage among delegates and party supporters.
The incident reportedly began when a committee member announced Dr. Victor Samuel Falack as the party’s consensus chairman in the state.
Attendees at the event applauded and endorsed Falack’s nomination, believing the selection process had been finalized.
The situation took a dramatic turn shortly afterward when another committee member, reportedly arriving from Abuja, interrupted the proceedings and announced a different individual as the party chairman.
The sudden change sparked confusion at the venue, with many party members openly questioning the move and demanding clarification from the committee.

The announcement reportedly led to heated arguments among delegates and supporters, many insisting that Falack had already been endorsed as the consensus candidate.
Tensions escalated into chaos as aggrieved members stormed out of the congress venue in protest, chanting slogans and demanding that Falack’s earlier declaration be upheld.
Some party members also labeled the newly announced chairman as “unknown” within the state PDP structure, accusing the committee of attempting to impose a candidate on the party.
Attempts by party officials to calm the situation reportedly failed, as tensions continued to rise among supporters.
As of the time of reporting, the outcome of the congress remained unclear, with party members urging the PDP national leadership to step in promptly and resolve the conflicting announcements.
