The Lagos State Police Command has arrested three suspects for allegedly vandalising vehicles across estates in the state, recovering several stolen components and tools used in carrying out the crimes.

The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Olohundare Moshood Jimoh, revealed this on Wednesday during a press briefing held at the Command’s headquarters in Lagos.

The suspects — Obinna Okeke, 27; Emmanuel Anyanwu, 38; and Joshua Nkemdirim, 31 — were described as members of a “notorious and vicious gang of exotic vehicle vandals.”

According to the Command, the suspects were arrested in the early hours of March 25, 2026, following intelligence-led operations by police detectives.

It was disclosed that the syndicate specialised in disguising as security operatives using fake uniforms and a Mercedes car jack modified to resemble firearms in order to gain access into estates within the Lagos metropolis.

The suspects reportedly targeted vehicles such as Toyota Hilux, Toyota Highlander, Lexus 650 Jeep, Mercedes Benz and other SUVs, focusing on removing brain boxes, wiring, side mirrors, tapping glasses, control devices and other expensive components.

“The suspects arrested corroborated the crime and are assisting the police detectives in the further investigation of the case.”

Items recovered from the suspects include brain boxes and a Mercedes Benz jack, among others displayed during the briefing.

The police further revealed that the suspects confessed to being members of a criminal syndicate involved in vehicle vandalism within Lagos and its environs, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the gang.

The Command advised residents, estate managers and security personnel to remain vigilant and exercise caution when individuals present themselves as security operatives seeking access into estates.

“In addition to basic verification, residents are urged to collaborate closely with the Police by contacting the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) covering their area to confirm the authenticity of any such security personnel before granting them access into their estates.”

The Commissioner also enjoined residents to make use of the Command’s emergency numbers — 07061019374, 08065154338, 08063299264, and 08039344870 — for quick intervention.

He assured that through vigilance, cooperation and timely reporting, the safety and security of communities across Lagos State would be strengthened.
