IPAC URGES INEC TO REVERSE ADC LEADERSHIP DECISION OR RISK CREDIBILITY CRISIS

The Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to reverse its decision regarding the African Democratic Congress (ADC) leadership dispute, warning that failure to do so could trigger a credibility crisis ahead of the 2027 elections.
In a statement made available to journalists in Abuja by IPAC National Publicity Secretary Comrade Egbeola Wale Martins, the council also raised concerns about the timing of a proposed nationwide voter revalidation exercise and condemned the ongoing killings in Plateau State.
IPAC said its intervention comes amid growing fears that recent developments in the electoral process and national security could erode public trust, weaken political institutions, and limit Nigerians’ participation in the democratic process.
Regarding the ADC leadership dispute, the council cautioned INEC against actions that could escalate tensions or create political uncertainty.

“The reported removal of Distinguished Senator David Mark and Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola from INEC’s official portal appears premature and risks causing unnecessary instability. If not properly managed, such steps could set a dangerous precedent and undermine confidence in the neutrality of the electoral umpire,” IPAC stated.
The council emphasized that internal party disputes do not create leadership vacuums and should be addressed within party structures.
On the proposed voter revalidation exercise, IPAC expressed concern over its timing.
“At a time when stakeholders, particularly political parties, are already handling obligations from the new Electoral Act—including nationwide membership registration with mandatory NIN verification, party primaries, and Verification and Compliance Assessments—introducing another nationwide exercise without adequate consultation risks disenfranchising millions of eligible voters. We urge INEC to reconsider the timing to avoid overburdening the electoral environment and excluding citizens from participating in democracy,” the statement said.
Addressing security issues, IPAC condemned the persistent violence in Plateau State as senseless and a serious threat to national unity.
“These acts of violence are unacceptable. The perpetrators and their sponsors must be swiftly apprehended and brought to justice. Nigeria’s democracy can only flourish where elections are credible, institutions are stable, and citizens feel secure,” the council added.
