The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has urged Nigerians to embrace hope, unity, and collective effort, emphasizing that the nation can overcome its current difficulties and “rise again.”

CAN conveyed this message in its Easter statement issued on Sunday, signed by President Daniel Okoh, noting that the season symbolizes renewal and offers a timely reminder for a country facing economic and security challenges.

“At Easter, as we celebrate the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ, we are reminded of a simple, enduring truth: no matter the hardships we face, rising again is always possible,” the statement read.

The association acknowledged that many Nigerians are struggling with economic hardships and insecurity, resulting in widespread anxiety and diminished hope.

“Across the country, people are weary. Families are anxious. Many feel unsafe; others are merely trying to survive. For some, hope has grown faint. But Easter reminds us that this is not the end,” CAN stated.

The body urged leaders at all levels to demonstrate responsibility and empathy, stressing that citizens expect tangible improvements in their living conditions.

“For those in leadership, this is a test of purpose. People must feel leadership, not just hear it. They are looking for action, empathy, and visible efforts to improve their lives,” the statement added.

CAN also called on the Church to play a more active role in offering hope and guidance during challenging times, standing with those in need and providing direction.

“For the Church, this is a time to stand firm and speak clearly. People are searching for hope they can hold on to. The Church must be present, supporting the struggling, offering guidance, and helping to light the way forward,” it said.

Addressing Nigerians directly, the association encouraged unity and resilience in the face of adversity, warning against fear and division.

“There may be those intent on keeping us in fear, but we must resist—not with panic or division, but with courage, solidarity, and mutual belief in one another,” the statement read.

CAN emphasized that Easter represents not only a celebration but also a conscious choice to confront challenges collectively.

“Easter is more than a celebration; it is a decision—a decision to rise above our differences, stand together, and face what holds us back. If we make that choice together, Nigeria will rise again,” CAN added.

The association concluded by extending Easter greetings to Christians nationwide and praying for peace, unity, and progress in Nigeria.
