The accident involved thirteen passengers aboard a white Toyota Hiace bus with the number plate AGL789YL and occurred around 9:18 p.m. in front of Christopher University along the expressway.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ogun Sector Command, in a statement signed by spokesperson Odunsi Afolabi, attributed the crash to speeding and a tyre burst.

According to him, this led the driver to lose control of the vehicle.

He stated, “The incident occurred at approximately 21:18 hrs directly in front of Christopher University on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.

“FRSC Mowe unit command rescue teams arrived on the scene within two minutes of being alerted.

“Total persons involved: 13 (11 adult males and 2 adult females). Number of injured persons are eight, seven male and one female. Fatalities, four male adult.

“Preliminary investigations suggest the crash was caused by Tyre Burst (TBS) and Speed Violation (SPV), leading the driver to lose control of the vehicle.”

The PRO noted that the injured victims were immediately evacuated to Famobis Hospital for urgent medical attention and the remains of the deceased were deposited at the Idera Morgue.

He added that the Motor Traffic Division (MTD) of the Redeemed Police Station took custody of the crashed vehicle, along with all recovered properties and luggage belonging to the passengers, for further investigation and safe-keeping.

Reacting, the Sector Commander, Corps Commander Akinwunmi Fasakin, extended his condolences to the families of deceased, urging motorists to strictly adhere to speed limits and ensure their tires are in good condition.
