The International Society for Civil Liberties and Rule of Law (Intersociety) has reported that 1,402 Christians were killed or abducted by terrorists in Nigeria within 96 days, from January 1 to April 6, 2026.

In its latest report, the group stated that at least 450 people were killed while about 600 were abducted during the period under review.

Intersociety’s Chairman, Emeka Umeagbalasi, alleged that attacks on Christians and churches have intensified, accusing the government of downplaying the situation despite growing violence.

He also claimed that efforts to reframe the crisis as farmer-herder clashes have failed to reflect the scale of the killings, insisting that the attacks have continued to spread across several regions.

According to the report, dozens of deaths were recorded during the Easter period, with incidents in states such as Benue, Kaduna, Borno, and Plateau contributing to the rising toll.

The group further highlighted the plight of internally displaced persons, noting that thousands of victims have sought refuge in shelters due to ongoing insecurity.

Intersociety called attention to what it described as increasing threats to affected communities, urging stronger action to address the violence and protect vulnerable populations.
